No Sandy Hook well-intentioned but reactionary legislation
In response to the tragedy that occurred in Sandy Hook, well-intentioned but reactionary legislation was passed without public hearing, resulting in a law that does absolutely nothing to prevent a similar tragedy. The law instead puts the safety of

- Submit a bill to repeal all of Senate bill 1160.
Direct the state legislature to hold public hearings on mental health issues and school safety.
- Fund school safety programs to provide armed police officers or security guards to protect our children in every school in Connecticut.
Fund mental health initiatives which may help identify and provide medical care to people who may be a threat to themselves and others.
Constitutional right to use firearms if necessary
It is our Constitutional right to protect ourselves and our families from harm, using firearms if necessary. Firearm ownership is already highly regulated, and little in the way of additional legislation is necessary.
It is more important now to enforce the laws already on the books, and assure the law-abiding public that criminals will face stiff sentences for violent attacks.
Millions of Americans are quite capable of safely and properly using firearms of all types and their rights should not be abridged because someone else is not comfortable with them.
The choice to defend oneself or loved ones, property or rights from assault or other forms of aggression is clearly written in the Constitution and should not be limited.
