Tammy Duckworth in The Chicago Tribune

On Principles & Values: I answer the call when asked to serve my country

Duckworth was asked whether she had received questions from Biden's campaign. "I want Joe Biden in the White House, and I trust that he's got a process for putting together the right team to help him do that from the vice president on down to the cabinet members. I personally have always answered the call when my country has asked me to serve." Duckworth is a veteran of the Iraq War who lost her legs after the Black Hawk helicopter she was piloting was shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade.

On War & Peace: Iran is our enemy, but nuclear deal prevents Iranian nukes

Tammy Duckworth's support for the Iran nuclear deal would inject an electric issue for the 2016 election if she wins her party's nomination to challenge Sen. Mark Kirk. Kirk is one of the most vocal Senate critics of the deal.

Duckworth wrote an op-ed explaining her support for the deal. Duckworth said she reviewed the agreement, attended briefings with national security experts and heard from "hundreds" of constituents before reaching a decision. "I have no illusions about the authoritarian Iranian regime," she said in a statement. "Iran is our enemy, it is Israel's enemy and it is the enemy of all nations that seek peace and stability. But Iran's destabilizing role in the region would be much greater if it could obtain nuclear weapons. Therefore preventing a nuclear armed Iran must be our primary goal. While not perfect, I believe the nuclear agreement provides the US and our allies with the most realistic and effective course of action currently available to stop Iran's nuclear weapons program.
